The new administration is ratcheting up the war on human life.
Item: President George W. Bush's policy-like that of President George H. W. Bush, Sr. and President Reagan-which forbade the pumping of taxpayers' dollars into the coffers of foreign agencies promoting or providing abortion has now been decisively reversed. Item: The attorney who successfully fought the U.S. government to secure Terry Schiavo's death by starvation, Thomas Perelli, has been nominated for the Number Three position in the Justice Department, that of U.S. Associate Attorney General.
   Item:
According to Life News.com for January 27, 2009, President Obama's nominee for Deputy Secretary of State-to be entrusted with the formulation of policy-James Steinberg, has tipped his "pro-choice" hand by stating in written testimony to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that in his opinion any effort of Congress to restrict federal funding even of domestic agencies that promote or provide abortion would be "an unconstitutional limitation of free speech".
Item: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has urged the allocation of MORE THAN TEN PERCENT (87 billion dollars) of the proposed 825 billion dollar "stimulus" plan towards helping individual states meet their Medicaid costs, with SPECIFIC INSISTENCE THAT "FAMILY PLANNING SERVICES" PROVIDING FOR ABORTION AND THE DISTRIBUTION OF CONTRACEPTIVES SHARE IN THIS FUNDING.
   Item:
The newly confirmed Secretary of Health and Human Services, Tom Daschle, is a veteran combatant in the cause of PROMOTING contraception and abortion. These (and other less dramatic) "pro-choice" initiatives have followed one another in rapid succession even as supporters of FOCA (The "Freedom of Choice" Act) are gathering their forces in Congress for an all- out battle. (Let's hope and pray that our postcard campaign will help to block Congressional action on that ftont).

And what better source could there be for glimpsing what additional proposals may soon be coming down the road from this administration than the White House's own website? (www.whitehouse.gov/agenda/civil-rights). Here are some verbatim quotations from that website, illustrating President Obama's agenda:
Support Full Civil Unions and Federal Rights for LGBT [Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgendered] Couples; President Obama supports full civil unions that give same-sex couples legal rights and privileges equal to those of married couples. Obama also believes we need to REPEAL the Defense of Marriage Act and enact legislation that would ensure that the 1,100+ federal legal rights and benefits currently provided on the basis of marital status are extended to same-sex couples in civil unions and other legally-recognized unions. These rights and benefits include the right to assist a loved one in times of emergency, the right to equal health insurance and other employment benefits, and property rights.
Oppose a Constitutional Ban on Same-Sex Marriage: President Obama voted AGAINST the Federal Marriage Amendment in 2006 which would have defined marriage as between a man and a woman and prevented judicial extension of marriage-like rights to same-sex or other unmarried couples.
Expand Adoption Rights: President Obama believes that we must ensure adoption rights for ALL cou ples and individuals, REGARDLESS of their sexual orientation. He thinks that a child will benefit from a healthy and loving home, whether the parents are gay or not.
Promote AIDS Prevention: In the first year of his presidency, President Obama will develop and begin to implement a comprehensive national HIV/AIDS strategy that includes all federal agencies. The strategy will be designed to reduce HIV infections, increase access to care and reduce HIV- related health disparities. The President will support common sense approaches including age-appropriate sex education that includes information about contraception...    and distributing contraceptives through our public health system....[Emphasis added].

Now is the time for all who stand with God in defense of justice to gear up for the war (no longer just cultural but increasingly governmental) that is now being thrust upon us. And the weapons essential for successful engagement in this war those urged upon us by Our Lady of Fatima: PENANCE AND PRAYER (and in particular the powerful prayer of the ROSARY).

And here is some comment from the conservative secular press on recent developments in the war on human life.

   Speaker Nancy "Malthus"
Editorial Page of The Wall Street Journal

One of the more curious items in the $825 billion House "stimulus" plan is $87 billion to help states with Medicaid, specifically including an expansion of family-planning services. The implication is that MORE PEOPLE mean LESS ECONOMIC growth [or that FEWER people mean MORE economic growth].

Following a White House meeting with President Obama on Friday, Republican John Boehner, the House Minority Leader, asked how spending millions of dollars on birth control will help stimulate the economy. On Sunday, George Stephanopoulos of ABC's "This Week" repeated the question to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who responded that "family planning services reduce costs."

She added: "The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now, and part of what we do for children's health, education and some of those elements are to help states meet their financial needs. One of those--one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception--will REDUCE COSTS to the states and to the federal government."

The notion that a larger population will produce a lower standard of living can be traced to the 18th-century economist Thomas Malthus. But during Malthus's own lifetime his prediction was proved FALSE, as he later acknowledged. Population and living standards ROSE simultaneously, and continued to do so.

Ms. Pelosis remarks ignore the importance of HUMAN CAPITAL, which is the ULTIMATE resource. FEWER babies would move the U.S. in the demographic direction of Europe and Asia. On the continent, birth rates already are effectively zero, and economists are predicting labor shortages in the years ahead. In Japan, where the population is aging very fast, workers are now encouraged to go home early to procreate. Japan is expected to lose 21% of its population by 2050.

The age and growth rate of a nation help determine its economic prosperity. A smaller workforce can result in less overall economic output. Without enough younger workers to replace retirees, health and pension costs can become debilitating. And when domestic markets shrink, so does capital investment. Whatever one's views on taxpayer subsidies for contraception, as ECONOMIC stimulus the idea is loopy. [Emphasis added].

Controversial Pick Represented Terri Schiavo's Husband
         By: Jeffrey T. Kuhner
         From: The Washington Times
         Date: January 19, 2009

Social conservatives are mobilizing to prevent President-Elect Barack Obama's nominee, Thomas Perrelli, from becoming the next U.S. associate attorney general--the No. 3 post at the Justice Department. In an article last week in The Washington Times, veteran reporters Stephen Dinan and Jerry Seper showed that prominent special interest groups, such as the Traditional Family Values Coalition and the Family Research Council, are urging Republicans to oppose Mr. Perrelli's appointment.

It is rare for a sub-Cabinet nominee to generate such fierce criticism, but Mr. Perrelli deserves it. He was one of the lawyers responsible for the death of Terri Schiavo. While representing Mrs. Schiavo's husband, Michael, Mr. Perelli played a key role in having the Florida woman's feeding tube forcibly removed. The 2005 landmark right-to-die case rightly outraged the pro- life community. As Mrs. Schiavo lay in a coma, her parents and siblings repeatedly said they were willing to take full responsibility, including PAYING for her medical care. Mr. Schiavo refused. He ordered her feeding at the hospital to be terminated-an act of cold-blooded. murder.

When the Florida courts and the state legislature refused to save Mrs. Schiavo's life, President Bush and congressional Republicans sought to intervene. They asked for a transfer of jurisdiction, so that federal courts could review the case. Yet, Mr. Perelli, along with the American Civil Liberties Union, worked tirelessly to prevent this and prevailed. Thus, the forces of death won. Mrs. Schiavo was slowly starved to death.

Contrary to the claims of Mr. Schiavo's supporters, the issue at hand was not about the "government intervening in a private family matter", or a husband's prerogative to decide his wife's fate in such circumstances. By then, Mr. Schiavo had relinquished his moral authority by hooking up with another woman. While his wife was still alive, he abandoned her. More importantly, the Terri Schiavo case was about the most basic and sacred right of all: the right to life--a right that is the government's overriding duty to PROTECT.

Mr. Perelli's active involvement should disqualify him from a top job at the Justice Department. If "Piranha Perelli" (as he is known in pro-life circles) can't protect a defenseless, incapacitated woman from a ruthless, amoral husband-in fact, goes out of his way to help finish her off-then he certainly cannot oversee the enforcement of America's laws.

The selection of Mr. Perrelli is symptomatic of Mr. Obama's radicalism on social issues. He is staffing his administration with hard core liberals bent on promoting a pro-abortion, pro-gay rights, pro-euthanasia agenda. The president-elect has tapped the likes of Dawn Johnsen, the former legal director of the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League (NARAL), to head the Office of Legal Council. He has chosen a fiercely partisan pro-choice Democrat, Tom Daschle, as Health and Human Services Secretary. Mr. Obama's intended Secretary of State, Senator Hillary Clinton, is a pro-abortion feminist, who will use the power of the State Department to promote a secular humanist agenda abroad.

On the campaign trail, Mr. Obama vowed that one of his first acts as president will be to sign the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA)-a sweeping law that will entrench Roe v. Wade and eliminate state restrictions on abortion and parental notification laws. He is a fierce critic of the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits use of federal Medicaid dollars for abortions except in cases of rape, incest and when the mother's life is in jeopardy. The law has saved countless lives. Yet, Mr. Obama and liberal Democrats plan to repeal it.

Mr. Obama regularly throws a few crumbs to so-called "values voters"--Catholics, Evangelicals, Protestant Southerners, Orthodox Jews-by inviting a pro-life pastor, such as the Rev. Rick Warren, to deliver the invocation at the inauguration or to talk about the need to "reduce the number of abortions."

But this is cheap symbolism and crass political pandering.  His actions-and- policy proposals--tell a different story: He is filling key positions with rabid pro-choice liberals, he has openly said abortion is a matter of "reproductive justice." He has promised the pro-abortion lobby to nominate Justices to the Supreme Court who will ferociously defend Roe v. Wade, and he has expressed "regret" for NOT opposing the GOP on the Schiavo case.

Mr. Obama is a prophet, but a prophet of the culture of death. He refuses to lift a finger to protect the most vulnerable and innocent in our society-the unborn. He now wants to appoint Mr. Schiavo's lawyer to a senior Justice Department position, and he must be stopped in his tracks. Conservatives must vociferously object: Mr. Obama needs to know Terry Schiavo has not been forgotten-and that her death was not in vain. [Emphasis added].
