A
Glance Back Over Sixty Years
On the occasion (June the second) of the sixtieth anniversary of my
ordination to the priesthood, may I give public and very humble thanks
to Almighty God for His endless forbearance and merciful indulgence in
the face of what can only be described as at best an utterly mediocre
response to His Urgent Love. In whatever time His gracious Providence
may still allow me, I pray that a slumbering and lukewarm soul may be
quickened to a worthier ardor. And I herewith give voice to my abiding
gratitude for the kindnesses shown to me over these many years by so
immense a multitude of the friends of God. He will surely reward you
for your charity. May God's only-begotten Son, through His suffering
and death, bring us all one day to rejoice forever in His Kingdom.
